Andrew has a specific entertainment and media expertise, especially television, film and digital, covering all aspects of production, distribution, broadcasting, finance (including tax-based schemes) and insurance.  He gets on well with creative people and understands creative issues, as well as their business ramifications.

He qualified as a solicitor in 1985 with Joynson Hicks, before joining Mishcon de Reya, representing Richard Attenborough, Anglia Television, CBS/Fox Video and the Laurel and Hardy library owners, among others.  At 28, he became a partner.

In 1993 he moved to Channel 4 as Head of Business Affairs and looked after negotiations across film, drama, light entertainment, news and current affairs and multi-cultural programming. He became a member of Channel 4’s management committee.  In 1998 he was promoted to Director of Business Affairs for its feature film mini-studio division, Film 4 and was involved in co-financing over 100 films, including Trainspotting, Secrets and Lies, Motorcycle Diaries and the Madness of King George, dealing regularly with Hollywood studios and mini-studios and other international partners.  Andrew featured regularly in the Legal 500 as one of the UK’s leading in-house television and feature film lawyers.

From 2003-2006, he was Head of Commercial and Business Affairs for ex-Polygram chief Michael Kuhn's Qwerty Films.  In 2006 he executive produced the film ‘Closing the Ring’ for Richard Attenborough.  Andrew was Managing Director at Future Films UK (2006-2008), then Senior Vice President, Business and Legal Affairs, Europe (2008-2010) for leading independent distributor Momentum Pictures, where he was also involved in co-financing ‘The King’s Speech’. 

Skills and Interests

Andrew mentors on Skillset’s ‘Guiding Lights’ film programme and is a Bafta member and former British Screen Advisory Council member.  His interests include food and travel and he occasionally writes for the Sunday Telegraph.
